Touchdown on Reddit
We’ve been working incredibly hard behind the scenes to build out the Touchdown platform. The end goal is to launch a feature-rich all in one platform that allows you to apply for a visa, register as a freelancer or set up a Portuguese company: with integrated accounting, invoicing and banking, we’re working hard to build the ultimate product in Portugal.
These development cycles happen iteratively and our in-house engineering team works every day to make small improvements on a regular basis. These add up, and today we’re proud to announce the rollout of Touchdown’s new visual identity: one of the key milestones as we work towards is vision.
The world simply has never been quite so mobile. Remote work continues to thrive, new visa categories are emerging, tax incentive programmes launching and global economies are shifting. People and families are seeking opportunity and belonging in ways that weren’t possible five years ago. There is a large migration of highly skilled individuals, founders and entrepreneurs moving to Portugal and Spain. This new sense of mobility introduces complications, problems like ever-changing regulations, unseen tax consequences, and compliance issues.
Touchdown was built for this very specific moment. The culture of relocation now prioritises clarity and trust, and so do we. This shift introduces a need for a reliable, appealing, and comforting brand. So we’ve created one.
Touchdown's new design is an homage to Portugal's unique visual and cultural language. The tiles (azulejos) that pattern city streets inspire the sense of order, rhythm, and craft in the brand. Particularly in elements like the rounded corner cards, the distinct headlines, and grid-based structure of key information. The colour palette balances feelings of Iberian warmth with bureaucratic clarity, fusing the human side of relocation with the precision customers of such services demand.
We chose the Helvetica Neue typeface because of its neutrality as well as global accessibility. It does not overwhelm, but it does feel familiar and reliable, just like the experience of Touchdown’s service. Every line of text communicates with assurance, clarity, and poise.
Photography plays a central role in our new visual identity. How could it not? Our service is rooted in human experience and we serve the needs of a diverse set of families and individuals, from all corners of the globe. So we steered clear of illustrations and chose to only show reality. We sought out a talented photographer that knew Portugal and its culture even better than we do and found one in Stefan Nickells. Stefan used his plethora of experience and skill to compose a beautiful suite of images that you will see across all of our channels. He took this project to the next level and we now have the privilege of working with these beautiful photographs every day.
The photography directs attention to life beyond visa applications and accommodation searches. It foregrounds people in their new daily life by bringing forward culture and community. Moments like sipping espresso in a park, grabbing a pastel de nata before getting the tram to work, or sitting amongst nature in the company of your neighbours. Spaces in which people integrate, explore, and build a new life. It is honest and grounded, never staged or idealised.
The website rebrand was a crucial moment in bringing Touchdown’s identity to life. Relocation is already a process filled with confusion and conflicting advice, and a cluttered or generic site would only add to that stress. We needed to stand out, but not by shouting, by prioritising usability and simple organisation of key information.
On the Visa pages, for example, the information is streamlined and navigable, turning dense legal frameworks into simple, digestible pathways. This reflects the same principle as the brand itself, removing friction and unnecessary noise.
Where competitors’ websites overwhelm, ours invites trust. Where others hide complexity behind brash sales copy, Touchdown’s interface makes even complex visa categories approachable. The rebrand demonstrates that Touchdown doesn’t just say it makes relocation seamless, it proves it with every click.
The Touchdown brand is routed in four key messages that speak to our values and promise to our customers.
Reliability: Every element, from the logo’s symmetry to the palette’s dependability, reinforces trust.
Precision: Like a well-aimed landing, the brand is sharp, clean, and confident.
Humanity: It avoids abstraction, grounding itself in real-life stories, images, and emotive design elements.
Cultural Authenticity: It isn’t a formulaic, overused template forced onto Portugal, we’ve crafted our brand from the inspiration we’ve gained from Portuguese streets, light, and spirit.
We welcome your feedback on our new look and are excited to engage with you on one of our many channels.
